황덕희는 칠공예를 중심으로 작품 활동을 이어온 작가이다. 서울여자대학에서 시각디자인을 전공한 후 일본 가나자와 미술공예대학 연구과 및 대학원에서 칠공예를 공부하며 전문적인 작업의 기반을 다졌다. 시각디자인에서 출발해 칠공예로 작업의 영역을 확장한 작가는 다양한 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다.

일본 유학 시절 ROTARY YONEYAMA 장학생으로 선정되었으며, 가나자와 시장상과 일본 칠공협회 장학상을 수상하고 ‘89 Design Competition 石川과 제46회 가나자와시 공예전에 입선했다. 또한 가나자와에서 열린 염색·칠 2인전과 가나자와 국제미술교류전 등에 참여했으며, 국제미술교류전에 출품한 작품은 가나자와 미술대학에 소장되어 있다. 이후 국내에서도 그룹전과 단체전에 참여하며 작품 활동을 하고 있다.

황덕희는 작품 활동과 함께 경성대학교와 한남대학교 등에서 출강하며 교육 활동을 한 바 있으며, 한국 칠예가회 회원이자 국가유산수리기능자(칠공)이기도 하다. 칠공예 분야에서 쌓아온 경험을 바탕으로 보다 다양한 영역으로의 확장을 모색하고 있다.

Hwang Duk Hee is an artist whose practice has long centered on lacquer craft. After majoring in Visual Design at Seoul Women’s College, she studied lacquer craft in the Research Program and graduate school at Kanazawa College of Art in Japan, establishing a solid foundation for her professional practice. Beginning in visual design and later expanding her practice into lacquer craft, she continues to pursue a wide range of artistic activities.

During her studies in Japan, Hwang was selected as a ROTARY YONEYAMA scholarship recipient. She received the Kanazawa Mayor’s Award and a scholarship award from the Japan Lacquer Craft Association, and was selected for the ’89 Design Competition Ishikawa and the 46th Kanazawa City Craft Exhibition. She also participated in a two-person exhibition of dyeing and lacquer in Kanazawa and the Kanazawa International Art Exchange Exhibition. A work presented at the International Art Exchange Exhibition is held in the collection of Kanazawa College of Art. After returning to Korea, she continued her artistic practice through group and collective exhibitions.

Alongside her artistic practice, Hwang has also been involved in education, teaching at institutions including Kyungsung University and Hannam University. She is a member of the Korean Lacquer Artists Association and is also a certified National Heritage Repair Technician specializing in lacquer work. Drawing on her experience in lacquer craft, she continues to explore opportunities to expand her practice into a broader range of fields.
