The solo exhibition “One true tree for...” by Javier Calleja is presented at Almine Rech New York from Nov 8 – Dec 14, 2024, marking the artist's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery. Featuring new paintings and multimedia works, the exhibition explores the relationship between human identity, nature, and the complexities of everyday life through Calleja's signature wide-eyed characters. Flowers, citrus fruits, and cacti emerge from the figures' colorful hair, creating playful compositions that blur the boundaries between the human and natural worlds. Short phrases, humorous expressions, and unexpected visual details introduce a dialogue between social order and individual freedom. Through vibrant colors, imaginative imagery, and a distinctive sense of humor, the exhibition invites viewers to rediscover the vitality of nature and experience a new chapter in the artist's evolving visual language.
