“Stains lingering on quiet white. Layers of white gently brushing over them.” In the solo exhibition “[SEOUL] After Obsession: Kim Joong-Baek,” presented at JARILAGER Gallery from May 7 – May 13, 2025, white is never just a color for the artist. It is discipline, erasure, focus, and acceptance—a process of emptying through repeated gestures of painting and covering. In this new body of work, color is more thoroughly excluded than ever, as coffee-stained canvases are overlaid with gesso.
