This solo exhibition by Yoo Choong Mok at Chungmuro Gallery explores the reinterpretation of traditional Korean aesthetics through the medium of glass. Beginning with the image of a clear, transparent droplet, the artist creates works that shift in appearance depending on light and viewpoint, producing unfamiliar spatial and temporal experiences.

For Yoo Choong Mok, glass functions as both a lens reflecting the past and a mirror revealing inner stillness. The transparent droplets symbolize accumulated memory and emotion, visualizing traces of existence through subtle color, light, and material. Rooted in Korean traditional aesthetics such as obangsaek, dancheong, and traditional window structures, his compositions reflect balance, restraint, and the philosophy of the Middle Way.

《고요히 비추다》는 충무로갤러리에서 열린 유충목 개인전으로, 유리를 매개로 한국 전통미를 현대적으로 재해석한 작품들을 선보인다.

유충목의 작업은 투명한 물방울의 이미지에서 출발한다. 실제 유리로 구현된 물방울은 빛과 시점에 따라 다른 그림자를 만들어내며, 현실과 환상의 경계를 허무는 낯선 감각을 유도한다. 이 물방울은 작가에게 시작이자 끝이며, 기억과 감정이 축적된 존재의 상징이다.

작가는 오방색, 단청, 전통 창호에서 영감을 받아 선과 면, 수직과 수평의 조화를 추상적으로 구성하며, 치우침 없는 길을 지향하는 동양의 중도 철학을 화면에 담아낸다. 절제된 선과 맑은 색, 투명한 물질이 어우러진 작품들은 고요하지만 깊은 울림을 전한다.
