Whanki: Landscapes of the Mind is a retrospective exhibition focusing on the New York period (1963–1974) of Kim Whanki, a pioneering figure in Korean abstract art. The exhibition explores the artist’s lifelong contemplation of nature and abstraction through paintings, drawings, writings, and archival materials.

During his years in New York, Kim Whanki pursued the essence of abstraction by stripping away form and concentrating on pure visual elements such as dots, lines, planes, and color. The exhibition presents approximately 140 works, including oil paintings, large-scale dot paintings, drawings, and illustrated letters, offering insight into both his artistic process and philosophical inquiry.

The exhibition title reflects Kim Whanki’s enduring artistic attitude—an insistence on continual contemplation and exploration of the unknown—revealing the depth and sincerity of his abstract language.

Whanki: 심상의 풍경은 한국 추상미술의 거장 김환기의 뉴욕 시기(1963–1974)를 중심으로 그의 예술 세계를 조망하는 회고전이다. 전시는 자연과 추상에 대한 작가의 지속적인 사유를 작품과 기록을 통해 살펴본다.
