Hyundai Gallery presents House, Family, Nature, and Chang Uc Chin in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Chang Uc Chin’s passing.
Chang Uc Chin established a singular pictorial world in modern Korean art, portraying everyday motifs such as houses, family, and nature through childlike simplicity, warm forms, and distinctive colors. As reflected in his statement, “I am simple,” the aesthetics of simplicity and an ideal of modest living consistently permeate his work.
This exhibition focuses on the core themes of Chang Uc Chin’s oeuvre—house, family, and nature—presenting approximately 50 representative works from his early period to his later years. The house appears as a place of refuge, family as a symbol of love and happiness, and nature as a peaceful realm of coexistence.
Through these works, visitors are invited to rediscover Chang Uc Chin’s unique visual language, imbued with humor, freedom, and a sense of innocence.
현대화랑은 장욱진 화백의 30주기를 기념하여 《집, 가족, 자연 그리고 장욱진》을 개최한다.
장욱진은 집과 가족, 자연이라는 일상적 모티프를 어린아이의 그림처럼 단순하고 따뜻한 형태, 독특한 색감으로 풀어내며 한국 근현대미술사에서 독보적인 회화 세계를 구축했다. “나는 심플하다”는 그의 말처럼, 단순함의 미학과 소박한 삶의 이상은 작품 전반에 일관되게 담겨 있다.
이번 전시는 장욱진 작품의 핵심 주제인 집, 가족, 자연을 중심으로 초기작부터 말년의 작품까지 약 50여 점을 선보인다. 집은 안식처로, 가족은 사랑과 행복의 상징으로, 자연은 평화의 공간으로 반복 등장하며 그의 세계관을 보여준다. 이를 통해 해학과 자유, 순수함이 깃든 장욱진만의 조형 언어를 다시 한번 만나볼 수 있다.
