Johyun Gallery presents On Paper, a solo exhibition by Kim Chong Hak, on view from July 3 to August 17, 2025. This exhibition marks the first focused examination of drawing as the foundation of Kim’s artistic practice, tracing the formation and evolution of his visual language from early works of the 1960s to recent pieces.

For Kim Chong Hak, drawing was not a preparatory step for painting but an independent artistic act—an ongoing process of observing nature and attuning his senses. Through line, space, repetition, and improvisation, his drawings accumulate as records of sustained inquiry and practice.

Featuring over 140 works, including woodcuts, watercolors, and pencil drawings, alongside a reconstruction of the artist’s studio, On Paper offers an immersive view into the origins and continual expansion of Kim Chong Hak’s artistic world.

조현화랑은 2025년 7월 3일부터 8월 17일까지 김종학 개인전 〈On Paper〉를 개최한다. 본 전시는 김종학 회화의 출발점이자 예술적 사유의 근간인 ‘드로잉’에 집중한 최초의 기획으로, 1960년대 초기 작업부터 최근작에 이르기까지 작가의 조형 언어가 형성되고 확장되어 온 과정을 조망한다.

드로잉은 김종학에게 회화를 위한 준비 단계가 아닌, 자연을 응시하고 감각을 조율하는 독립적인 예술 행위였다. 선과 여백, 반복과 즉흥을 통해 축적된 그의 드로잉은 수십 년에 걸친 사유와 실천의 기록이자, 끊임없이 진화해온 창작의 현장이다.

총 140여 점의 작품으로 구성된 이번 전시는 작업실 재현과 함께 목판화, 수채, 연필 드로잉 등 다양한 매체를 통해 김종학 예술 세계의 기원과 확장을 입체적으로 보여준다.
