History is never linear. Origin, Emergence, Return traces the layered trajectories of Korean contemporary art—from its emergence through postwar loss and recovery to the present moment.

Bringing together works by Park Seo-Bo, Lee Bae, and Jin Meyerson, the exhibition examines shared questions of memory and identity across different generations shaped by Korea’s modern history. Each artist, having spent formative years abroad before returning to Korea, responds to conditions of division, displacement, loss, and return through distinct artistic practices.

Working with disparate materials—hanji, charcoal, and digital technologies—the artists explore repetition and discipline, materiality and trace, identity and belonging. Origin, Emergence, Return offers a reflective lens on how Korean contemporary art has formed and expanded within a global context.

역사는 결코 선형적으로 기록되지 않는다. 《Origin, Emergence, Return》은 한국 현대미술이 태동하고, 전후의 상실과 회복을 거쳐 오늘에 이르기까지 축적해온 시간과 사유의 궤적을 따라간다.

이번 전시는 박서보, 이배, 진 마이어슨 세 작가의 작업을 통해 한국 근현대사의 서로 다른 세대가 공유해온 기억과 정체성을 조명한다. 각기 다른 시기에 태어나 해외에서 경험을 쌓고 다시 한국으로 돌아온 이들의 작업은, 분단과 이주, 상실과 귀환이라는 역사적 조건 속에서 형성된 예술적 응답이다.

한지, 숯, 그리고 디지털 기술이라는 상이한 매체를 통해 세 작가는 반복과 수행, 물질과 흔적, 정체성과 귀속의 문제를 탐구한다. 《Origin, Emergence, Return》은 한국 현대미술이 세계 속에서 어떻게 형성되고 확장되어 왔는지를 현재의 시점에서 다시 성찰하는 자리이다.
