임태규는 서울대학교에서 동양화를, 중앙대학교 대학원에서는 한국화를 전공했다. 송은미술대상 우수상(2005), 석남미술상(2007), RED DOT AWARD 본상(2023)을 받았고, 금호미술관 영아티스트로 선정되어 다수의 개인전과 단체전을 통해 국제적으로 활발히 활동하고 있다.

동양 회화의 전통 재료와 기법을 유지하면서도 주제와 형식은 완전히 현대적인 요소를 접목함으로써 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 그는 먹을 묻힌 화선지 위에 또 다른 화선지를 덮고 펜선 같은 느낌의 독특한 필선을 만들어내는 방식으로 작업하고 있으며, 만화 같은 캐릭터들은 경쾌하면서도 혼란스러운 현대인의 자화상을 보여준다.

Yim Tae Kyu studied Oriental painting at Seoul National University and majored in Korean painting at the graduate school of Chung-Ang University. He has received the Excellence Award at the SongEun Art Award (2005), the Seoknam Art Award (2007), and the Red Dot Award (2023), and was selected as a Kumho Museum of Art Young Artist. Through numerous solo and group exhibitions, he has been actively engaged on the international stage.

While maintaining the traditional materials and techniques of East Asian painting, he incorporates entirely contemporary themes and forms, drawing significant attention. His working process involves layering another sheet of hanji over inked paper to create distinctive pen-like lines, and his cartoon-like characters present lively yet chaotic self-portraits of modern individuals.

Dynamic lines, vibrant colors, comic-style brushwork, and character compositions vividly convey the collisions between reality and imagination in contemporary life through a highly original style. He is highly regarded for opening new possibilities in Oriental painting while demonstrating the diversity of contemporary art.
