씨에 아이거(Xie Aige)는 현세대에서 가장 주목받는 젊은 중국 조각가 중 한 명으로, 상하이 미술대학교를 졸업한 후 2005년 상하이 두오롱 현대미술관에서 개인전을 개최하며 국제적인 관심을 받기 시작했다. 이후 독자적인 조형 언어를 바탕으로 중국 현대 조각의 새로운 흐름을 제시해 왔다.

그는 주로 청동과 합성 재료를 사용해 기발하면서도 정교한 조각 작품을 제작하며, 크림색과 반짝이는 검은색으로 코팅된 표면을 통해 자연의 시적인 순간을 포착한다. “정지된 고요한 포즈조차도 우리를 깊이 감동하게 할 수 있다”는 그의 말처럼, ‘Tai Chi’ 시리즈에서는 태극권의 다양한 동작을 통해 정적이면서도 내면의 에너지가 응축된 형상을 표현한다.

최근 작품에는 언덕과 개울, 신화적인 인물, 야생 동물의 형상이 등장하며, 작가의 어린 시절 기억 속 중국 시골 풍경이 배경이 된다. 매끄러운 표면과 둥글고 온화한 인물 형상, 자연의 요소가 어우러진 그의 조각은 마치 한 편의 시를 감상하는 듯한 정서적 울림을 전한다. 현재 상하이를 기반으로 활동 중이며, 중국, 독일, 미국 등에서 활발한 전시를 이어가고 있다. 그의 작품은 상하이 세계금융센터, 파크 하얏트 상하이, 베이징 수도국제공항, 이탈리아 은행 등에 소장되어 있다.

Xie Aige is one of the most promising young sculptors of his generation in China. After graduating from Shanghai University of Art, he gained international attention with a solo exhibition at the Duolun Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai in 2005, marking the beginning of his global recognition.

Working primarily with bronze and composite materials, Xie creates imaginative yet meticulously crafted sculptures. His works, often coated in creamy white or glossy black finishes, capture poetic moments drawn from nature. As he states, “Even a still and silent pose can move us deeply,” a philosophy embodied in his well-known “Tai Chi” series, which expresses various Tai Chi postures through calm yet powerful sculptural forms.

His recent works depict hills, streams, mythical figures, and wild animals, inspired by memories of rural China from his childhood. With smooth surfaces, softly rounded figures, and natural motifs, his sculptures evoke the sensation of reading a lyrical poem. Currently based in Shanghai, Xie Aige continues to exhibit internationally across China, Germany, and the United States. His works are held in collections including the Shanghai World Financial Center, Park Hyatt Shanghai, Beijing Capital International Airport, and banks in Italy.
