Born in Wisconsin, United States, Travis Fish is an artist influenced by Black music culture. His early works focused on portraits of members of the hip-hop group Migos, through which he developed an interest in the luxury fashion brands they frequently wear. Since then, he has explored the intersection of fashion and fine art, incorporating visual motifs such as clothing and accessories into his paintings.

With the rise of fast fashion in the age of social media—where trends are produced and circulated at unprecedented speed—Fish began referring to his practice as “Fast Painting.” Reflecting the rapid shifts of the fashion industry, he paints portraits of figures frequently mentioned on social media, including Virgil Abloh, Raf Simons, and Alex Katz, capturing the visual language of contemporary culture.

True to its name, Fish’s fast painting process involves laying canvases on the floor and painting over them in a dance-like, physical manner.
