퇴색되지 않는 밀봉 상태의 순수함을 담은 테즈킴의 작품 세계는 회화, 비디오, 설치 등 다양한 매체로 집대성된다. 작가는 홍익대학교에서 금속조형디자인을 전공한 후 미국으로 건너가 2009년 로드아일랜드 디자인스쿨을 졸업했다. 이후 조형, 회화, 영상 등 장르의 경계를 넘나들며 활발히 활동하고 있으며, 2001년 키아프(KIAF+) 출품을 계기로 해외 아트페어에서도 주목받는 라이징 작가로 자리매김했다.

“기억을 끊임없이 거슬러 올라가면 가장 순수했던 시절의 소년을 만날 수 있습니다.”라는 작가의 말처럼, 그의 작업은 유년 시절을 상징하는 소년 캐릭터에서 출발한다. 이 소년은 자아 찾기의 여정을 시작으로 모험을 즐기는 인간, 자연을 사랑하는 인간, 자유를 갈망하는 인간 등 다양한 인간의 내면을 투영하는 존재로 등장한다. 아이와 어른의 경계에 선 소년의 모습은 성장과 고통, 좌절과 행복이라는 삶의 본질적인 감정을 담아낸다.

특히 작품 속에 함께 등장하는 동물 캐릭터들은 따뜻한 감성을 지닌 동반자로서, 이 세상을 함께 헤쳐 나가자는 메시지를 상징한다. 인간의 순수한 본질을 탐구하는 과정에서 마주한 감정과 존재를 소년의 형상으로 시각화한 테즈킴의 작품은, 관객에게 잔잔한 공감과 함께 묘한 미소를 남긴다.

Tez Kim’s artistic universe, which encapsulates an un-fading, sealed purity, unfolds across a wide range of media including painting, video, and installation. After majoring in metal and sculptural design at Hongik University, he moved to the United States and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009. Since then, he has worked fluidly across sculpture, painting, and moving images, emerging as a rising artist recognized at international art fairs following his participation in KIAF+ in 2001.

As the artist states, “If you trace memory far enough back, you eventually encounter the boy from your most innocent days.” This boy character, symbolizing his childhood, lies at the core of his work. The figure reflects various aspects of the human spirit—an adventurous being, a lover of nature, and one who longs for freedom—standing at the ambiguous boundary between childhood and adulthood. Through this figure, Tez Kim explores the essential experiences of life, including growth, pain, frustration, and happiness.

The animal characters that appear alongside the boy embody warm, empathetic companions, symbolizing a shared journey through the world. By visualizing the presence he encounters while searching for human purity in the form of a boy, Tez Kim creates works that resonate with quiet emotion, inviting viewers to smile gently and reflect on their own inner innocence.
