언제나 새롭고 빠름이 요구되는 세계 속에서 ‘오늘’에 대해 사유하며 고독을 표현하는 아티스트 콰야는, 날마다 일기를 쓰듯 일상에서 떠오르는 생각과 감정을 화면에 담아낸다. 그의 작업은 삶을 둘러싼 내밀한 이야기와 시대의 흐름 속에서 받아들여야 하는 감정들을 조용히 응시하는 데서 출발한다.

콰야는 읽을 수 없는 표정의 인물들을 등장시켜 사유의 시공간을 형성하고, 이를 통해 관람자의 내면적 사유를 자극한다. 감정이 절제된 인물들은 명확한 서사를 제공하기보다 여백과 침묵을 남기며, 보는 이로 하여금 각자의 경험과 감정을 투영하도록 유도한다.

그는 2019년 그룹 잔나비의 정규 2집 <전설> 앨범 커버를 작업했으며, 2021년 이길이구 갤러리에서 개인전을 개최했다. 2022년에는 가수 최백호와 함께 롯데갤러리에서 전시를 선보이며, 다듬어지지 않은 자유분방한 필치로 독특한 작품 세계를 확장해왔다. 졸업 이후 빠른 속도로 15회의 개인전과 40회 이상의 단체전에 참여했으며, 다수의 전시 작품이 완판되는 등 주목받는 신진 작가로 자리매김하고 있다.

Qwaya is an artist who reflects on “today” and expresses solitude in a world that constantly demands novelty and speed. Drawing as if writing a daily diary, Qwaya captures fleeting thoughts and emotions that arise from everyday life, quietly observing intimate personal narratives within the broader flow of the world.

Her works feature figures with unreadable expressions, creating a contemplative space-time that invites viewers into their own introspection. Rather than offering explicit narratives, these restrained figures leave room for silence and ambiguity, encouraging the audience to project their own emotions and experiences.

In 2019, Qwaya created the album cover for indie band Jannabi’s second full-length album <Legend>. She held a solo exhibition at Lee Gil I Gu Gallery in 2021, and in 2022 presented an exhibition with singer Choi Baek Ho at Lotte Gallery. Since graduating, she has rapidly gained attention through 15 solo exhibitions and over 40 group shows, while also expanding into commercial projects such as album artwork. Her pseudonym “Qwaya,” derived from the idea of passing through the night (過夜) and the initials of “Quiet, Quest,” reflects the silent exploration and solitude that permeate her practice.
