박시현은 시선을 끄는 강렬한 에너지를 지닌 작품으로 주목받는 작가로, 동아대학교에서 서양화를 전공한 후 현재 중국 상하이를 기반으로 활발히 활동하고 있다. 2023년 개인전 <길 위의 길>은 중국으로 이주한 이후에도 지속적으로 이어온 그의 작업의 흐름을 집약적으로 보여주는 전시였다.

중국인 스승에게 수묵화를 배우며, 그는 기존의 유화 작업과 어머니의 바느질에서 영감을 받은 콜라주 방식을 캔버스 위에 절묘하게 결합했다. 길 위에서 체득한 경험들은 인간의 의식 속에서 소화되어 새로운 길로 나아가는 원동력이 되며, 그의 작업은 이러한 축적과 변환의 과정을 시각화한다.

그가 추구하는 선은 추상적으로 인식될 수 있으나 기하학적이거나 이성적인 선이 아니다. 강렬하고 깊이 있는 색채는 붓질에서 우러난 감정을 담아내며, 관객을 형태 너머의 색의 조화와 리듬으로 이끈다. 작가는 강하고 유연한 선을 자유롭게 사용하는 것이 곧 인생과 같다고 말한다. 그는 국내외에서 개인전을 개최하고, 상하이·홍콩·베이징·파리 등 다양한 단체전에 참여하며 자신의 예술 세계를 확장해 왔다.

Park Si Heun (Sarah Park) is an artist known for the striking intensity that immediately captures the viewer’s gaze. After majoring in Western painting at Dong-A University, she is currently based in Shanghai, where she continues her active artistic practice. Her 2023 solo exhibition <The Road on the Road> encapsulated the continuity of her work since relocating to China.

Studying ink painting under a Chinese mentor, Park has skillfully merged her oil painting practice with collage techniques inspired by her mother’s sewing. The experiences gathered along the road are digested within human consciousness, becoming a driving force toward new paths—an idea that underpins her artistic approach.

Although her use of line may appear abstract, it is neither geometric nor purely rational. Her intense and layered colors carry the emotional resonance of her brushstrokes, drawing viewers into a rhythm and harmony of color beyond form. Park likens the free use of strong yet flexible lines to life itself—sometimes requiring force, at other times restraint to gain wisdom. She has held solo exhibitions in Korea and abroad, and has participated in group exhibitions in cities such as Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Paris, further establishing her artistic presence.
