Mr. Brainwash is the artist name of filmmaker and visual artist Thierry Guetta. Born in France in 1966 and raised in Los Angeles, he had no formal art training, yet began his journey as a street pop artist after meeting Banksy.

Over more than a decade of artistic practice, he has expanded his pop culture–driven work from the streets to galleries and screens. In 2006, armed with paint buckets, brushes, spray cans, and wallpaper paste, he took to the streets, filling urban spaces with posters and stencils depicting beloved cultural icons.
