민경아는 독창적이고 강렬한 입체 판화 세계를 구축해 온 작가로, 고려대학교를 졸업한 후 미국 보스턴에서 판화를 전공해 석사 학위를 취득했다. 귀국 후에는 홍익대학교 판화과에서 미술학 박사학위를 받았으며, 동 대학에서 겸임교수로 활동했다.

보스턴 유학 시절 로버트 브룩스 메모리얼 스칼라십 어워드에서 대상을 수상하며 실력을 인정받았고, 공간 국제 판화 비엔날레에서도 수상했다. 그는 국내외에서 20회 이상의 개인전을 개최하며 꾸준하고 왕성한 창작 활동을 이어가고 있다.

민경아의 작품은 오브제와 오브제, 현재와 과거, 동양과 서양이 혼재된 화면을 통해 이미지를 재구성하며 새로운 서사를 만들어낸다. 시를 쓰듯, 소설의 한 페이지를 읽듯, 혹은 연극의 한 장면을 연출하듯 전개되는 그의 작업은 특히 ‘명화와 성경의 만남’, ‘피노키오 석고상’, ‘피노키오 팝업북: 피노키오가 되어버린 음악가’ 등 피노키오를 주제로 한 연작에서 작가의 철학이 뚜렷하게 드러난다. 그가 고수하는 리노컷 판화는 흑백의 대비와 조화를 바탕으로 검정의 명도를 섬세하게 조절하며 점·선·면의 균형을 추구하는 기법으로, 많은 시간과 노동이 요구됨에도 불구하고 판화의 본질에 대한 신념으로 작업을 이어가고 있다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관을 비롯해 고려대학교, 장로회신학대학교, 한신대학교 등 여러 기관에 소장되어 있다.

Min Kyeong Ah is an artist known for constructing a distinctive and powerful world of three-dimensional printmaking. She graduated from Korea University and later earned her MFA in Printmaking in Boston, USA. After returning to Korea, she completed her PhD in Fine Arts at Hongik University, where she also served as an adjunct professor.

During her studies in Boston, she received the Grand Prize at the Robert Brooks Memorial Scholarship Award, gaining early recognition for her artistic excellence. She has also been awarded at the Space International Print Biennale and has held over twenty solo exhibitions both in Korea and internationally.

Her works recompose images by layering objects, time periods, and cultural references from East and West, unfolding like poetry, a page from a novel, or a scene from a theatrical performance. This narrative-driven approach is especially evident in her Pinocchio-themed series, including “The Encounter of Masterpieces and the Bible,” “Pinocchio Plaster Sculpture,” and “Pinocchio Pop-up Book: The Musician Who Became Pinocchio,” where her artistic philosophy is clearly articulated. Committed to the linocut technique, Min emphasizes the contrast and harmony of black and white, carefully modulating tonal depth while balancing dots, lines, and planes. Despite the labor-intensive process of carving linoleum plates and hand-printing each work, she continues to devote herself to printmaking. Her works are held in major collections such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the Seoul Museum of Art, and several universities including Korea University, Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, and Hanshin University.
