임채욱의 사진은 한 폭의 동양화 같다. 서울대학교에서 동양화를 전공했지만, 수묵을 버리고 우리의 산수를 한지에 프린트한다. 화선지에 먹으로 그리듯 흑백으로 찍은 산과 물을 한지에 프린트해 여백이 아름다운 한 폭의 산수화를 그린다.

Mind Spectrum 시리즈는 선명한 원색으로 자연계의 복잡한 형태를 최소화하고 여백이 주는 여유로움으로 피사체의 아름다움에 보다 집중하게 한다. 실존하는 자연을 또 다른 자연의 모습으로 보이게 만드는 작가의 시선이 흥미롭다. 감정이입과 상징이 색을 통해 표출되고 조화롭게 귀결된다. 임채욱의 컬러 이미지는 강렬하면서도 에너지가 넘친다. 선명한 색을 통해 감정을 환기하며 풍경에 대한 느낌을 재해석하게 한다.

‘산 시리즈’로 큰 스케일의 개인전을 여러 차례 열었고 사진을 입체화하는 새로운 작업을 통해 사진 작품의 무한한 가능성을 내보이고 있다. 2014 The Prudential Eye Awards 선정되었고, 2023년 스페인, 2024년 서울에서 개인전을 개최하는 등 왕성하게 활동 중이다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행, Deutsche Bank, Harbour City Hong Kong, Four Seasons Seoul, Grand Hyatt Seoul, Vision Tower, Fine Tower, 울산지방검찰청, 세브란스병원 등에 소장 되어있다.

Lim Chaewook’s photographs resemble a single scroll of East Asian painting. Although he majored in traditional ink painting at Seoul National University, he set aside ink and instead prints Korean landscapes onto hanji. By printing mountains and water photographed in black and white—much like drawing with ink on xuan paper—onto hanji, he creates landscape images in which the beauty of empty space stands out.

The Mind Spectrum series minimizes the complex forms of nature through vivid primary colors, allowing viewers to focus more closely on the beauty of the subject through the sense of spaciousness created by empty space. The artist’s perspective, which transforms existing nature into another form of nature, is particularly compelling. Emotional projection and symbolism are expressed through color and brought into harmonious balance. Lim Chaewook’s color images are both powerful and full of energy, evoking emotion through vivid hues and reinterpreting the sensation of landscape.

He has held several large-scale solo exhibitions with the “Mountain Series” and continues to reveal the limitless possibilities of photographic art through new works that give photographs a three-dimensional presence. He was selected for the Prudential Eye Awards in 2014 and has remained highly active, holding solo exhibitions in Spain in 2023 and in Seoul in 2024. His work
