이수동은 영남대학교 미술대학을 졸업하고 동 대학원 석사 학위를 취득했다. 작가로 활동하며 벚꽃과 들꽃, 달, 자작나무, 바다, 연인 등 익숙하고 일상적인 소재들을 낭만적인 감성과 화풍으로 그려낸다. 바라만 봐도 행복해지는 그의 모든 그림은 사람들에게 보내는 응원의 메시지 같다.

그는 2000년 KBS 드라마 ‘가을동화’ 속 실제 화가로 알려지며 대중에게 인지도를 높여갔다. ‘한 줌의 물감으로 사람을 행복하게 만들지는 못하더라도 괴롭히지는 말자’는 소신이 있는 그는 개인전, 각종 그룹전, 아트페어 등을 통해 꾸준히 작품 활동을 해왔다.

또한 <토닥토닥 그림편지>, <오늘 수고했어요> 등의 그림 에세이집을 출간, 일상의 풍경 속에 담긴 작가의 세계관을 글과 함께 풀어냄으로써 작품의 영역을 한층 더 확장했다. 특별히 제작된 이수동의 다양한 판화들은 최근 가장 인기 있는 아이템 중 하나이다. 이 외에도 화장품패키지, 멤버십카드디자인 등 다양한 분야와의 아트 콜라보레이션을 통해 활동을 넓혀가고 있다.

Lee Soodong graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Yeungnam University and received his master’s degree from the same institution. As an artist, he depicts familiar and everyday subjects such as cherry blossoms, wildflowers, the moon, birch trees, the sea, and lovers with a romantic sensibility and style. All of his paintings, which bring happiness simply by being looked at, feel like messages of encouragement sent to people.

In 2000, he became widely known to the public as the actual painter featured in the KBS drama “Autumn in My Heart.” Guided by his belief that “even if a handful of paint cannot make people happy, it should never cause them pain,” he has steadily continued his artistic practice through solo exhibitions, various group exhibitions, and art fairs.

He has also published illustrated essay books such as <Pat Pat, Illustrated Letters> and <You Did Well Today>, further expanding the scope of his work by expressing his worldview embedded in everyday scenery through both images and text. Specially produced prints by Lee Soodong have recently become one of the most popular items. In addition, he continues to broaden his activities through art collaborations across diverse fields, including cosmetic packaging and membership card design.
