이종한은 홍익대학교 서양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업했으며, 현재 호서대학교 디지털문화예술학부 애니메이션 전공 조교수로 재직하고 있다. 대한민국미술대전 특선, 동아미술제 동아미술상, 오늘의 젊은 예술가상, 도쿄 국제 미니판화 트리엔날레 미술관상 등을 수상하며 작품성을 인정받았다.

회화의 연장선상에서 판화에 천착해 온 그는 에칭과 아쿼틴트로 판화를 시작해 이후 스크린 프린팅으로 작업을 확장했다. 그의 연작에는 어디인지 알 수 없는 공간에서 동화 같은 이야기가 펼쳐진다. 하늘에 떠 있는 조각달과 고운 물빛을 머금은 집들을 가상의 시공간에 배열해 따뜻한 기억을 담은 풍경을 만들어낸다.

한지의 물성을 활용해 형태를 잡고 말리고 덧붙이기를 반복하는 ‘만들기’ 과정은 동심의 감성을 극대화한다. 전통 한지를 물에 불려 염료와 함께 오랜 시간 삶아 만든 종이 죽은 겹치고 스며드는 과정을 거치며 독특한 화면을 완성한다. 그는 현재 서울, 도쿄, 뉴욕 등지에서 개인전과 단체전을 포함해 300여 회의 전시에 참여하며 활발한 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Lee Jonghan graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Hongik University and its graduate school, and currently serves as an assistant professor in the Animation major of the Division of Digital Culture and Arts at Hoseo University. He has received numerous awards, including a Special Selection at the Korea Fine Arts Exhibition, the Dong-A Art Award at the Dong-A Art Festival, the Today’s Young Artist Award, and the Museum Award at the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennial.

Approaching printmaking as an extension of painting, he first worked with etching and aquatint before expanding into screen printing. His series unfold fairy-tale-like narratives set in undefined places. By arranging fragmentary moons floating in the sky and houses imbued with gentle hues of water within imaginary time and space, he creates landscapes filled with warm memories.

Through a process of “making” that involves shaping, drying, and repeatedly layering materials using the unique properties of hanji, a sense of childlike innocence is heightened. Traditional hanji is soaked in water, boiled for hours with pigments, and transformed into pulp that is layered and allowed to permeate, resulting in richly textured surfaces. Lee Jonghan continues his active artistic practice, participating in over 300 exhibitions, including solo and group shows, in cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, and New York.
