이인화는 다마미술대학교 대학원을 졸업한 후 홍익대학교 판화과 교수로 재직하며 한국 판화계에 중요한 업적을 남긴 작가이다. 그는 교육자이자 예술가로서 활동하며, 불모지에 가까웠던 한국 판화의 기반을 다지는 데 크게 기여했다.

특정 기법이나 양식에 머무르지 않고 다양한 표현 방식을 실험해 온 그의 작업은 동판화의 정교한 메조틴트와 아쿠아틴트, 자유로운 붓 터치가 돋보이는 석판화, 서정적이고 추상적인 대형 목판화 등 폭넓은 스펙트럼을 보여준다. 이러한 작업들은 현실과 이상이 대립하는 것이 아니라 공존할 수 있다는 작가의 철학을 바탕으로, 초현실적인 공간을 창조한다는 평가를 받고 있다.

한국 판화계를 개척한 선구자로서 그는 1980년 제5회 서울 국제판화비엔날레와 대한민국 미술대전 판화 부문 우수상을 비롯해, 벨라루스 ‘96’ 국제소형판화비엔날레 특별상 등 다수의 수상 경력을 지녔다. 또한 카뉴 국제회화제, 아시아현대미술전 등 다양한 국내외 전시에 참여했으며, 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 다마미술대학 박물관, 성곡미술관, 홋카이도 도립 근대미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.

Lee In Hwa was a pioneering printmaker who made significant contributions to the development of Korean printmaking. After completing his graduate studies at Tama Art University, he served as a professor in the Department of Printmaking at Hongik University, playing a vital role in shaping the foundation of contemporary Korean print art.

Rather than confining himself to a single technique or style, Lee continuously explored diverse methods of expression. His body of work encompasses finely executed mezzotint and aquatint copperplate prints, lithographs characterized by free and expressive brushwork, and large-scale woodcuts marked by lyrical abstraction. Embedded within these works is his philosophy that reality and ideality are not opposing forces, but can coexist to create surreal spatial experiences.

As a trailblazer in a once underdeveloped field, Lee received numerous accolades, including awards at the 5th Seoul International Print Biennale and the Korea Art Exhibition in 1980, as well as a Special Prize at the Belarus ’96 International Mini Print Biennale. He also participated actively in major exhibitions such as the Cagnes International Painting Festival and the Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition. Today, his works are held in prominent collections including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Tama Art University Museum, Sungkok Art Museum, and the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art.
