서울에서 태어난 이건우 작가는 목조형 작품으로 예술계에 데뷔해 다수의 전시와 공모전에서 입상하며 주목을 받았다. 현재는 평면 회화와 미디어 파사드 작업으로 영역을 확장하며 다양한 방식으로 자신의 예술 세계를 표현하고 있다. 런던 사치갤러리 전시를 계기로 해외에서도 꾸준히 활동을 이어가고 있으며, 워커힐과 하얏트 등 5성급 호텔 전시 및 광고 협찬, 다양한 브랜드 프로젝트를 통해 대중과 미디어의 관심을 받고 있다.

작품의 특징은 작가 내면의 복잡한 감정을 단순한 형태로 환원하고, 불규칙한 반복을 통해 인위적인 구조를 자연스러운 패턴으로 전환하는 데 있다. 그는 자연적인 것과 인위적인 것, 불완전함과 완전함, 규칙성과 불규칙성처럼 서로 대비되는 요소들이 하나의 형태로 공존할 때 가장 완전하고 아름다운 상태에 도달한다고 말한다.

Lee Geonwoo, born in Seoul, made his debut in the art world through wooden sculptural works, earning recognition by receiving awards at numerous exhibitions and competitions. He has since expanded his practice to include painting and media façade works, exploring diverse ways of expressing his artistic vision. Following an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London, he has continued to exhibit internationally, while also gaining public and media attention through exhibitions and advertising collaborations with five-star hotels such as Walkerhill and Hyatt, as well as various brand projects.

The defining characteristic of his work lies in translating the complexity of his inner world into simplified forms, and transforming artificial structures into natural patterns through irregular repetition. As he states, when contrasting elements such as the natural and the artificial, imperfection and perfection, and regular arrangement and irregular layering are unified into a single form, they achieve their most complete and beautiful state.
