김미경은 홍익대학교 서양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업한 후 판화와 회화를 넘나들며 활발한 작품 활동을 이어오고 있다. 국내외 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 참여하며, 재료와 우연성을 중심으로 한 자신만의 조형 언어를 구축해 왔다.

그의 작품에 등장하는 형상들은 처음에는 꽃처럼 보이지만, 이내 생명체의 움직임이나 세포 분열을 연상시킨다. 이는 물감이 순간적으로 번지고 퍼지다가 어느 지점에서 응고되며 우연히 생성된 이미지로, 작가가 미리 규정한 형태라기보다는 포착된 찰나의 상태에 가깝다. 물감이나 물이 어떤 형상을 향해 나아가다 돌연 멈춘 듯한 긴장감이 화면 전반을 지배한다.

이러한 물감의 흔적은 또 다른 세계를 암시하며 새로운 이미지를 끊임없이 불러낸다. 최근에는 지푸라기를 오브제로 활용해 샌딩과 채색을 반복하며 화면의 질감과 밀도를 한층 강화하고 있다. 김미경은 ‘의도된 것과 의도되지 않았지만 의도된 것처럼 보이는 재구성’을 통해, 우연과 선택이 공존하는 회화의 가능성을 지속적으로 확장해 나가고 있다.

Kim Mikyung graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Hongik University and completed her graduate studies at the same institution. She has been actively working as both a printmaker and painter, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Korea and abroad while developing her own distinctive artistic language.

The forms that appear in her works may initially resemble flowers, yet they soon evoke impressions of organic movement or cellular division. These images emerge from moments when paint spreads, flows, and suddenly coagulates, forming accidental shapes rather than predetermined ones. It is the tension of these captured coincidences—moments where paint seems to pause mid-motion—that structures the composition of her paintings.

The traces of paint suggest the existence of another world, continually generating new visual associations. In recent works, she has incorporated straw as an object, alternating sanding and layering of paint to intensify texture and density. Through what she describes as a “reconstruction of what is intended and what is unintended yet appears intentional,” Kim Mikyung continues to explore new possibilities where chance and intention coexist within painting.
