KIM KYUNGJIN
김경진은 타이포그래피 기반의 아트 오브제로 주목받는 작가로, 다채로운 재료와 독창적인 시선을 통해 본질에 가까운 디자인에 대해 끊임없이 질문을 던진다. 그는 인간이 사물이라는 객체를 선택함으로써 주체가 된다고 말하며, 사물을 선택하고 관계 맺는 태도에서 디자이너의 주체성을 발견한다.
시각디자인과 산업디자인을 전공한 김경진은 독립 이후 타이포그래피 스튜디오 ‘사물의 좌표’를 운영하며 전시, 출판, 음반 아트 협업 등 다양한 영역을 넘나드는 활동을 이어가고 있다. 일상에서 사용되는 ‘공구’를 주요 모티브로 삼아 종이의 물성에 상상을 더하고, 실험적인 기호들을 조합해 조형적 언어를 확장한다.
무언가를 만들고 고치는 데 사용되는 공구의 이미지에 상상과 희망을 투영한 그의 작업은 다각적인 아트워크로 전개되며 작가 고유의 영역을 구축한다. ‘LOVE BLOOMS’는 기존 <LOVE FLOWERS> 연작의 입체 작업에 색을 더한 벽 오브제로, 사랑할 때 피어오르는 감정을 싱그럽고 따뜻한 ‘사랑꽃’에 은유한 작품이다.
Kim Kyungjin is an artist recognized for typography-based art objects, continually questioning the essence of design through diverse materials and an original perspective. He asserts that humans become subjects by choosing objects, and it is through this act of selection and relationship-building that a designer’s subjectivity emerges.
With academic backgrounds in visual communication design and industrial design, Kim founded the independent typography studio “Coordinates of Objects,” where he engages in a wide range of practices including exhibitions, publishing, and album art collaborations. Drawing inspiration from everyday tools, he adds imagination to the materiality of paper, combining experimental symbols to develop a distinctive sculptural language.
By infusing images of tools—objects used to make or repair—with imagination and hope, Kim expands his practice into multifaceted artworks that define his unique artistic territory. “LOVE BLOOMS” is a wall-based sculptural work that adds color to the three-dimensional <LOVE FLOWERS> series, metaphorically expressing the emotions that blossom when one is in love through fresh and warm “flowers of love.”
