김효원은 화가이자 수필가로, 일상의 소소한 풍경들을 단순화한 구도로 진솔하게 그려내는 것이 특징이다. 성신여자대학교 국문과를 졸업하고 한국외국어대학교 정치행정언론대학원을 수료했으며, 약 30년 가까이 언론계에 종사했다.

오요나라라는 필명으로 에세이 『내방에는 돌고래가 산다』 등을 펴냈고, 어릴 적 꿈이었던 그림을 꾸준히 이어가며 개인전 ‘도시 정원’(키스갤러리, 2014)을 포함해 총 3회의 개인전과 ‘매혹전’(갤러리소머리국밥, 2009) 등 다수의 단체전에 참여했다.

어린 시절 고향을 떠나 도시에서 살아가는 자신을, 도시 곳곳의 작은 화분에서 옹색하게 자라는 식물에 비유하는 그는 다양한 식물의 모습 속에서 현대인의 삶을 발견하고 이를 그림으로 옮긴다. 무심코 지나쳤던 풍경 속에서 사랑과 생명의 소중함을 느끼게 하는 그의 작업은, 2009년 이후 물감과 붓 대신 아이패드를 활용하며 보다 자유롭고 현대적인 표현으로 확장되고 있다.

Kim Hyo Won is both a painter and an essayist, known for sincerely depicting small, everyday scenes through simplified compositions. She graduated from the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Sungshin Women’s University and completed graduate studies at the Graduate School of Political Science, Public Administration, and Journalism at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She worked in the media industry for nearly thirty years.

Writing under the pen name Oyona, she published essay collections such as Dolphins Live in My Room, while continuously pursuing her childhood dream of painting. Her artistic practice includes three solo exhibitions, notably Urban Garden (Kiss Gallery, 2014), as well as numerous group exhibitions including Enchantment (Gallery Somori Gukbap, 2009).

Having left her hometown at a young age to live in the city, Kim Hyo Won likens herself to a plant growing modestly in a small pot tucked away in an urban corner. Through images of various plants, she discovers reflections of contemporary life and translates them into her artwork. Her paintings invite viewers to rediscover love and the preciousness of life in scenes often overlooked. Since 2009, she has worked primarily with an iPad instead of traditional paints and brushes, presenting a freer and more contemporary visual language.
