김은기는 홍익대학교 미술대학에서 회화를 전공하고, 덕성여자대학교 대학원에서 교육영상매체학을 공부했다. 미국 유학 시절, 그가 접한 동화책 <초원의 집>에서 영감을 받아 사람들의 마음을 따뜻하게 해주는 그림을 그리기로 결심했다. 그의 작품은 마치 동화 속 현실을 연상시키며, 행복과 기쁨, 호기심을 불러일으킨다. 또한 화사한 파스텔톤이 더해져 보고 있으면, 기분 좋은 에너지가 전달되어 절로 미소가 지어진다.
이는 작가가 작품을 통해 삶의 긍정적인 메시지를 전하고자 하는 의도가 성공적으로 구현된 결과라 할 수 있다. 특히, 키다리 아저씨를 떠올리게 하는 스노우맨은 일상에 지친 사람들에게 위로를 주는 행복한 이야기를 담고 있어 상상력을 자극한다. 그의 회화는 장식적이고 아름다우며 가벼운 느낌을 주어 사람들의 눈길을 사로잡는다. 그러나 그 안에는 교훈적 의미와 보편적인 진리가 숨겨져 있어, 이를 발견하게 되면 작품의 매력을 더욱 깊이 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
Kim Eungi majored in painting at the College of Fine Arts, Hongik University, and studied Educational Media at the graduate school of Duksung Women’s University. During her years studying in the United States, she was inspired by the children’s book Little House on the Prairie, which led her to decide to create paintings that warm people’s hearts.
Her works evoke a reality reminiscent of a fairy tale, awakening feelings of happiness, joy, and curiosity. Enhanced by bright pastel tones, her paintings convey a pleasant energy that naturally brings a smile to the viewer’s face. This can be seen as a successful realization of the artist’s intention to deliver positive messages about life through her art.
In particular, the snowman figure—reminiscent of Daddy-Long-Legs—contains a joyful and comforting story that offers solace to those weary of everyday life and stimulates the imagination. Her paintings are decorative, beautiful, and light in feeling, effortlessly capturing viewers’ attention. Yet beneath their charming surface lie moral meanings and universal truths, and once these are discovered, the depth and appeal of her work can be appreciated even more fully.
