밝은 색채의 화려한 대비가 돋보이는 시각적 은유와 시적 상상력에 의한 공간 구성이 주특기인 금동원은 세종대학교 대학원에서 미술학을 전공했다. 그는 나무, 꽃, 물고기 등 자연의 다양한 사물들을 강렬한 원색으로 유쾌하고 천진하게 표현한다.

그가 일관되게 유지해 온 기호를 활용한 ‘시각적 은유’는 최근 사유의 깊이를 더해 복합적이며 회화적인 구성으로 한 걸음 더 나아가고 있다. 작품 속에서 생명력이 폭발하는 총천연색은 제각각 충돌하기보다 조화롭고 자연스럽게 어우러진다.

한국의 색채와 꿈전, 뉴욕아트엑스포 등 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 참여했으며, 아트앤워즈 멜버른(1995)에서 최고작가상과 경기신문미술상(2010)을 수상했다. 그의 작품은 포스틸 사옥, 아모레퍼시픽 박물관, 성동구청, 한국지방행정연구원, 인터콘티넨탈 호텔 등에 소장되어 있다.

Keum Dongwon, known for his spatial compositions driven by visual metaphors and poetic imagination highlighted through vivid color contrasts, majored in Fine Arts at the graduate school of Sejong University. He depicts various elements of nature—such as trees, flowers, and fish—in bold primary colors with a cheerful and childlike sensibility.

The “visual metaphors” formed through symbolic motifs that he has consistently employed have recently deepened in conceptual richness, advancing toward more complex and painterly compositions. The full spectrum of colors bursting with vitality in his works does not clash but instead harmonizes naturally within the pictorial space.

He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Colors of Korea and Dream, and the New York Art Expo. He received the Grand Prize at Art & Awards Melbourne in 1995 and the Gyeonggi Newspaper Art Award in 2010. His works are held in collections such as the Posteel headquarters, Amorepacific Museum of Art, Seongdong District Office, Korea Research Institute for Local Administration, and the InterContinental Hotel.
