정우재 작가는 홍익대학교 대학원에서 회화를 전공하며, 국내외에서 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 참여해 활발히 활동하는 젊은 한국 작가이다. 그의 작품은 거대한 반려동물과 소녀 이미지를 극사실적으로 그려내어 관객을 깊이 몰입하게 한다. 특히, 그의 고양이와 강아지는 사람보다 큰 모습으로 묘사되어, 우리가 그들을 보호하는 것뿐만 아니라 오히려 그들로부터 위로와 치유를 받는다는 메시지를 전달한다.

반려동물은 변하지 않는 본성을 지닌 존재로서, 인간의 결핍된 관계와 본성과 마주하게 해주며 위안을 제공한다. 정우재는 현대인이 겪는 감정적 공허함과 사회적·정서적 결핍을 반려동물을 통해 회복할 수 있는 경험을 제공하고자 한다. 그는 이러한 경험이 현실의 문제를 드러내고, 우리의 자존감과 자아 회복에 기여할 것이라고 믿는다. 그의 작품이 부정적 결핍을 해소하고 진정한 자신을 발견할 기회를 제공하기를 희망한다. 현재 그의 작품은 인천지방검찰청, 인천이랜드문화재단, 서울원주문화재단 등 여러 곳에 소장되어 있다.

Jeong Woo Jae is a young Korean artist who majored in painting at the Graduate School of Hongik University and has been actively exhibiting through numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Korea and abroad. His works immerse viewers through hyperrealistic depictions of giant companion animals alongside young girls. In particular, his cats and dogs are portrayed as larger than humans, conveying the message that rather than merely protecting them, we are in fact comforted and healed by their presence. Companion animals, as beings with an unchanging nature, allow us to confront the deficiencies in human relationships and our own inner nature, offering solace and reassurance.

Through these animals, Jeong Woo Jae seeks to provide experiences that help contemporary individuals recover from emotional emptiness and social and psychological deprivation. He believes that such encounters reveal the realities of our lives and contribute to the restoration of self-esteem and a sense of self. He hopes that his works will alleviate negative feelings of lack and offer viewers an opportunity to rediscover their true selves. His artworks are currently included in the collections of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office, the Incheon E-Land Cultural Foundation, and the Seoul Wonju Cultural Foundation, among others.
