Jason Martin is a British artist who explores new possibilities in painting through materiality and movement. He studied painting at Chelsea College of Arts in London and gained international recognition after participating in an exhibition at the Royal Academy in London in 1997.

Martin’s works are created through repetitive actions of scraping and pushing thick layers of paint across the surface. The resulting textures shift with changes in light, allowing the works to be perceived as both paintings and sculptural forms. Intense colors and rhythmic textures generate tension and energy, while the material traces remain as records of the artist’s gestures and the passage of time.

Working on a range of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and linen, Martin has continuously experimented with the depth and structure produced by layered pigment and texture. In recent years, he has expanded his painterly language by introducing more delicate surfaces and softer tonal variations. His works are held in major museum collections such as Tate Modern, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in Sydney, and are regularly presented through galleries and art fairs across Korea, Europe, and the United States.
