장희진 작가는 2002년부터 ‘사이(IN-BETWEEN)’라는 주제를 중심으로 다양한 색과 결의 변주를 선보여왔다. 20여 년 전부터 시도해온 음각과 양각의 요철 베이스는 그의 작업을 대표하는 시그니처로, 공예 작업을 하듯 수행하듯 모델링 페이스트를 수없이 쌓아 올리는 과정에서 작품이 완성된다.

작가는 화면을 엄격하게 분할하고 색을 집요하게 채워나가며 반복적인 노동을 통해 회화에 접근한다. 2차원의 평면 위에 작업되지만, 미묘한 결이 물결치듯 드러나는 입체적 화면은 장희진 회화만의 독특한 매력으로, 평면과 입체의 경계를 넘나드는 시각적 경험을 제공한다.

그의 작품은 평면 회화의 한계를 넘어 파동과 같은 에너지를 담아낸다. 장희진은 서울에서 태어나 선화예술중학교와 선화예술고등학교를 졸업하고 중앙대학교에서 회화를 전공했으며, 동 대학원에서 석사학위를 받았다. 2002년 이후 독일, 스위스, 뉴욕, 싱가포르, 중국, 대만 등에서 열린 100여 회의 국내외 아트페어와 기획전에 참여했으며, 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 제주도립미술관, 삼성문화재단, 주한독일대사관, 부산 파라다이스호텔 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

Jang Hee Jin has been exploring variations of color and texture under the theme “IN-BETWEEN” since 2002. The concave and convex textured bases she began developing over two decades ago have become a signature of her practice, created through the repetitive, almost meditative process of layering modeling paste as if engaged in a form of craft or ritual.

She approaches painting through strict compositional divisions and an obsessive accumulation of color, committing to repetitive labor as a core aspect of her process. Although rooted in two-dimensional painting, her works reveal subtle, wave-like textures that emerge across the surface, offering a sculptural depth that distinguishes her painterly language.

Her paintings move beyond the boundaries of flatness, capturing energies akin to vibration and resonance. Born in Seoul, Jang Hee Jin studied painting at Chung-Ang University and earned her MFA from the same institution. Since 2002, she has participated in over 100 domestic and international art fairs and curated exhibitions in countries including Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Singapore, China, and Taiwan. Her works are held in major collections such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Jeju Museum of Art, Samsung Foundation of Culture, the Embassy of Germany in Korea, and Paradise Hotel Busan.
