한국을 대표하는 팝아티스트 홍원표는 홍익대학교 미술대학에서 동양화를 전공하고, 자신만의 ‘선 드로잉’ 기법을 개발해 회화와 조형, 영상, 공간 설치 등으로 작업 영역을 확장해 왔다. 자유롭고 즉흥적인 선을 기반으로 한 그의 작업은 장르의 경계를 넘나들며 독자적인 예술 세계를 구축한다.

모두의 인생이 축제로 가득하길 바라는 마음에서 탄생한 캐릭터 ‘바라바빠(Barabapa)’는 무한한 유쾌함을 지닌 존재로, 바쁘지만 희망을 잃지 않고 살아가는 우리의 모습을 투영한다. 작가의 즉흥적인 ‘라이브 드로잉’은 의식과 무의식 사이에서 무념무상의 유희가 되는 과정으로, 관객에게 창조와 치유, 긍정의 에너지를 전달한다.

자유롭고 리드미컬하게 이어지는 선 위에 풍부한 색채가 더해져 생동감을 자아내는 홍원표의 작품에는 세상을 순수하고 유쾌한 시선으로 바라보는 그의 세계관이 고스란히 담겨 있다. 그는 서울시, 한국문화재재단, 부산시 등 공공기관과 현대카드, 롯데, 한화, SK텔레콤, 아모레퍼시픽 등 다양한 브랜드와 협업했으며, 행정안전부 장관 표창을 수상했다. 또한 해외 초청 강연, 서울문화재단 잠실 창작 스튜디오 장애아동 창작지원 사업 멘토 활동, 일곱 권의 저서 출간 등 예술을 매개로 교육과 캠페인 분야에서도 활발히 활동하고 있다.

Hong Wonpyo is a leading Korean pop artist who studied Oriental Painting at Hongik University and developed his own distinctive “line drawing” technique. Expanding his practice across painting, sculpture, video, and spatial installations, he has built a unique artistic language that moves freely beyond conventional genres.

Created with the hope that everyone’s life might be filled with celebration, his character Barabapa embodies boundless joy and reflects the lives of people who remain hopeful despite the busyness of everyday life. Hong’s spontaneous “live drawing” unfolds as a state of playful emptiness between consciousness and the unconscious, conveying energies of creation, healing, and positivity to the audience.

Composed of free, rhythmic lines enriched with vibrant colors, his works express a lively spirit and reveal an optimistic worldview that embraces the world with innocence and humor. Hong Wonpyo has collaborated with public institutions such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, and the City of Busan, as well as brands including Hyundai Card, Lotte, Hanwha, SK Telecom, and Amorepacific, and has received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety. In addition to international lectures and mentoring programs, he remains actively engaged in education and social campaigns through art, having published seven books to date.
