국대호는 초점이 잘못 잡혀 흐릿하게 보이는 보케(bokeh) 현상이나, 능숙하지 못한 이가 찍은 사진처럼 선명하지 않은 이미지를 보여준다. 이는 주관적인 시각으로 대상의 사실성을 조절하며, 평범한 장면을 비범하게 표현하려는 작가의 의도이다. 그는 촬영한 작품을 디지털로 프린트한 뒤, 같은 이미지를 캔버스에 유채로 그리는 방식으로 사진과 회화의 동행에 성공한 작가로 평가받는다.

또한, 그는 가장 근원적인 조형 요소인 ‘색’을 통해 세상을 표현하고 대중과 소통한다. 절제된 묘사는 관객을 색이라는 원초적 요소에 몰입하게 하며, 높은 밀도와 거친 속도감이 작품 전반에 드러난다. 다양한 색 조합은 수평적 형태로 나타나고, 색과 색 사이의 단조로운 선들은 여러 이미지를 연상케 한다.

국대호는 도시 풍경, 젤리 빈, 스트라이프 시리즈, 컬러필드 시리즈 등을 통해 색에 대한 깊은 몰입과 다채로운 색의 탐구를 보여준다. 그는 서울대학교 미술대학에서 서양화를 전공하고, 파리 국립미술학교에서 회화를, 파리 8대학교 대학원에서 조형예술학을 공부했다. 1995년 이후로 국내외에서 30여 회의 개인전을 열었으며, 싱가포르, 네덜란드, 홍콩, 미국 마이애미 등지의 아트페어와 영국, 프랑스에서 개최되는 단체전에 참여해 왔다. 프랑스에서 다수의 작가상을 수상하였고, 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 부산 시립미술관, 경기도 미술관, 프랑스 비트리 시립미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.

Guk Dae Ho presents images that appear blurred due to an out-of-focus bokeh effect, or indistinct like photographs taken by an unskilled hand. This reflects the artist’s intention to adjust the realism of a subject through a subjective gaze, transforming ordinary scenes into something extraordinary. He is regarded as an artist who has successfully brought photography and painting together by digitally printing his photographs and then painting the same images in oil on canvas.

He also expresses the world and communicates with the public through “color,” the most fundamental formative element. His restrained depiction draws viewers into immersion in color as a primal element, while a high density and rough sense of speed permeate the works. Diverse color combinations appear in horizontal formations, and the simple lines between colors evoke multiple images.

Through urban landscapes, jelly bean, stripe, and color field series, Guk Dae Ho demonstrates deep immersion in and exploration of color. He majored in Western painting at Seoul National University, studied painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and pursued formative arts at the graduate school of Université Paris 8. Since 1995, he has held over thirty solo exhibitions in Korea and abroad, and has participated in art fairs in cities such as Singapore, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Miami, as well as group exhibitions in the United Kingdom and France. He has received numerous artist awards in France, and his works are held in collections including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Busan Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and the Vitry Municipal Museum of Art in France.
