정수영은 영국과 서울을 기반으로 활동하며 동시대 미술의 최전선에서 주목받고 있는 젊은 작가이다. 2016년 첫 개인전을 연 이후 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 참여하며 왕성한 활동을 이어가고 있다. 그는 우리가 무심코 지나치는 일상을 다시 들여다보고, 유희적인 상상을 통해 동시대의 삶을 섬세하게 조명한다.

그의 작품은 평온한 일상 공간이나 정물처럼 보이는 사물들을 다루지만, 자세히 들여다보면 핀셋으로 집어낸 듯한 불안과 조바심이 공존한다. 정수영은 일상적이고 보편적인 현실의 대상을 통해 인간의 감정과 경험을 탐구하며, 객관적인 시선 속에 위트를 더한 고유한 회화적 스타일을 전개한다.

작가는 런던의 새클러 빌딩, 스페이스 갤러리, 힉스 갤러리, 사치 갤러리 등에서 작품을 선보였으며, 2018년에는 한국 해담하우스에서 열린 협동작전 주최의 [Solo Show]전에 학고재갤러리와 함께 참여했다. 이화여자대학교에서 회화와 판화를 전공하고 동 대학원에서 서양화를 수학한 뒤, 영국 왕립예술학교(Royal College of Art)에서 회화 전공으로 석사 학위를 받았다. 그는 Arte Laguna Art Prize(베니스, 2016), The Sunny Art Prize(영국, 2017) 숏리스트에 올랐으며, Hix Art Award(런던, 2017), Griffin Art Award(영국, 2017), Graduate Art Prize(영국, 2018) 최종 후보로 선정된 바 있다.

Chung Sooyoung is a young contemporary artist working between the UK and Seoul, actively engaged at the forefront of contemporary art. Since her first solo exhibition in 2016, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, establishing a dynamic and evolving practice.

Her paintings revisit ordinary, easily overlooked moments of everyday life, illuminating contemporary existence through playful imagination. While her works often depict calm domestic spaces or still-life-like objects, a closer look reveals a subtle coexistence of anxiety and unease, as if carefully grasped with tweezers. Through familiar subjects, Chung explores human emotions and experiences with wit and an objective, distinctive painterly language.

She has exhibited her work at venues such as the Sackler Building, SPACE Gallery, Hix Gallery, and Saatchi Gallery in London, and participated in a [Solo Show] organized by Cooperative Operation at Haedam House in Korea in 2018 in collaboration with Hakgojae Gallery. Chung studied painting and printmaking at Ewha Womans University, completed her postgraduate studies in Western painting at the same institution, and earned her master’s degree in painting from the Royal College of Art. She was shortlisted for the Arte Laguna Art Prize (Venice, 2016) and The Sunny Art Prize (UK, 2017), and was a finalist for the Hix Art Award (London, 2017), Griffin Art Award (UK, 2017), and Graduate Art Prize (UK, 2018).
