최영걸은 서울대학교 동양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업한 작가로, 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 초대되며 활발한 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다. 그의 작품은 전통적인 한국화의 재료와 기법을 충실히 따르면서도, 현대 회화와의 감각적인 조화를 유지한다.

Choi Yong Geol graduated from the Department of Oriental Painting at Seoul National University and completed his graduate studies at the same institution. He has been actively presenting his work through numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Faithful to the materials and techniques of traditional Korean painting while maintaining a sensibility attuned to contemporary painting, his works reveal both heritage and modernity. Focusing on the landscapes of Korea and the villages quietly embedded within nature, his paintings offer scenes that feel both familiar and timeless. The realism of his imagery immediately captures the viewer’s attention, while prolonged viewing reveals intricate detail, spatial depth, and refined chromatic precision.

By directly observing and internalizing his subjects before translating them onto the surface, Choi completes his works through a process of deep contemplation and meditation. His paintings subtly intertwine a contemporary interpretation of Korean painting with influences reminiscent of Northern Renaissance precision, genre painters’ depictions of everyday life, Romantic reflections on nature, and the Impressionists’ analytical approach to light.
