최은정은 동국대학교 미술학과와 이화여자대학교 대학원에서 조소를 전공한 작가로, 지금까지 10회의 개인전과 100여 회 이상의 기획 단체전에 참여하며 활발한 작품 활동을 이어오고 있다. 그의 작품은 주로 하늘을 소재로 삼아 ‘희망의 빛’을 이야기한다.
작가는 조각과 사진, 다양한 기법을 창의적으로 결합한 새로운 개념의 조각 콜라보 작업을 선보여왔다. 일상의 하늘을 자신의 시각으로 포착한 이미지를 수천 번 켜켜이 쌓은 레진(PUR Poly Urethane Reactive) 마띠에르 위에 특수 UV 프린트 방식으로 옮기며, 조각과 사진이 결합된 독자적인 조형 언어를 구축한다.
최근 작업에서는 레진 재질의 특수 접착제인 글루(Glue)를 반복적으로 쌓는 방식이 일관되게 사용된다. 씨실과 날실을 엮듯 쉼 없이 이어지는 글루건 작업은 수행과도 같은 과정으로, 작가는 가려진 하늘 너머 곧 드러날 빛을 ‘희망(HOPE)’으로 바라보며 작업을 이어간다. 그의 작품은 대한항공 본사와 길리어드 사이언스 코리아 등에 소장되어 있다.
Choi Eun Jeoung studied sculpture at Dongguk University and completed her graduate studies at Ewha Womans University. She has held ten solo exhibitions and participated in over one hundred curated group exhibitions, maintaining an active artistic practice. Her work consistently centers on the sky as a motif, conveying the notion of “light as hope.”
She presents a new concept of sculptural collaboration by creatively combining sculpture, photography, and technique. Capturing everyday skies through her own perspective, she transfers these images onto layers of resin (PUR Poly Urethane Reactive) matière built up thousands of times, using a specialized UV printing process to merge sculptural form with photographic imagery.
In her recent works, Choi repeatedly layers a resin-based adhesive material known as glue. The continuous application with a glue gun—woven endlessly like warp and weft—resembles a meditative or ritualistic act. Although her works depict the sky, they ultimately speak of hope: a light momentarily obscured yet destined to emerge. Her works are held in collections including Korean Air Headquarters and Gilead Sciences Korea.
