창남은 어둠을 타고 물결치는 파도의 흐름을 촬영하는 작가이다. 연속적으로 밀려오는 파도는 셔터를 누르는 순간마다 다양한 색과 함께 낯설고 어색한 형상으로 기록되며, 익숙한 자연 풍경을 새로운 감각으로 전환시킨다.

이러한 작업의 과정은 경험적 대상을 넘어선 감각적 형상의 표현으로, 단순한 외관의 재현이 아닌 작가 내면의 기억과 감성이 교류하는 환상의 관념적 풍경을 드러낸다. 어둠 속을 가르며 흐르는 바람과 파도, 부서지는 파도의 소리는 작가의 내면을 관통하는 함성과 닮아 있다.

자연의 모습에 자신을 투영하며 자아의 혼돈에서 벗어나고자 하는 욕망은 그의 작품 전반에 스며 있다. 창남은 경원대학교 미술대학과 중앙대학교 예술대학원을 졸업했으며, 15회의 개인전과 100여 회에 이르는 국내외 단체전에 참여했다. 그의 작품은 종로구청, 구하갤러리, 한라인재개발원, 국립현대미술관 미술은행 등에 소장되어 있다.

Chang Nam is an artist who photographs the undulating flow of waves moving through darkness. As the shutter is released, successive waves are captured in unfamiliar and unexpected forms, accompanied by shifting colors that transform a familiar natural subject into a new sensory experience.

The process of his work transcends the depiction of experiential reality, presenting sensory forms that go beyond mere representation. Rather than reproducing external appearances, his images reveal imagined landscapes where the artist’s inner memories and emotions intersect. The wind cutting through darkness, the rolling waves, and the crashing sounds of the sea resemble the resonant cries flowing within the artist himself.

Reflecting himself onto the forces of nature, Chang Nam’s work expresses a desire to escape inner confusion and regain equilibrium. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Kyungwon University and completed his studies at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Arts. He has held 15 solo exhibitions and participated in over 100 group exhibitions both in Korea and abroad. His works are included in collections such as the Jongno District Office, Guha Gallery, Hanline Redevelopment Institute, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Art Bank.
