아야코 록카쿠는 치바현에서 태어나 베를린, 포르투, 도쿄, 암스테르담 등 여러 도시를 오가며 다국적으로 활동하고 있는 작가이다. 미술과 관련된 정규 교육을 받지 않았지만, 2002년 카드보드지 위에 맨손으로 아크릴 페인트를 바르며 본격적으로 그림을 그리기 시작했다.

그는 붓 대신 손가락에 물감을 묻혀 캔버스 위에 비비고 누르거나 문지르는 ‘핑거 페인팅’ 기법으로 작업한다. 이러한 방식으로 완성된 작품들은 도톰하고 생동감 있는 독특한 질감을 지니며, 직관적이면서도 자유로운 에너지를 화면에 담아낸다.

2007년 갤러리 델레이브에서 첫 개인전을 개최한 이후, 아시아·유럽·미국 등지의 갤러리 전시와 아트페어를 통해 활발히 활동해왔다. 현재 아야코 록카쿠는 쿠사마 야요이, 무라카미 다카시, 나라 요시토모 등 일본을 대표하는 거장들의 뒤를 잇는 차세대 유망 작가로 미술 시장에서 주목받고 있다.

Ayako Rokkaku was born in Chiba Prefecture and works internationally, having lived in cities such as Berlin, Porto, Tokyo, and Amsterdam. Without any formal art education, she began painting in 2002 by applying acrylic paint directly onto cardboard using her bare hands.

Working with a finger-painting technique, she spreads, presses, and rubs acrylic paint onto the canvas using her fingers rather than brushes. The resulting works are characterized by their thick, tactile surfaces and distinctive textures, conveying a sense of spontaneity and vibrant energy.

After holding her first solo exhibition at Galerie Delaive in 2007, Rokkaku has continued to exhibit actively through gallery shows and art fairs across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Today, she is recognized as one of the most promising contemporary Japanese artists, following in the footsteps of renowned figures such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, and Yoshitomo Nara.
