Born in 1963, Annora Spence studied textile dyeing at Liverpool Polytechnic in the early 1980s before earning a master’s degree at Birmingham Polytechnic, where she established a strong artistic foundation. Beginning her career as an artist and designer in 1987, she created a fresh global impact with her approachable and humor-filled works, and presented highly accomplished pieces through collaborations with renowned print studios in the United Kingdom.

Her works draw on a wide range of inspirations gathered from Europe, India, and Asia, and the characters that appear in them radiate a modest, natural, and affectionate charm. Familiar motifs such as birds, pigs, dogs, goats, and horses evoke warmth and comfort through soft color tones and the tactile quality of layered paint.

She often aims to explore relationships between eccentric characters placed in humorous—and at times almost impossible—situations. To arrive at a chosen image, she goes through countless drawings, refining the work repeatedly until the image feels settled and at ease. Her works have been exhibited to critical acclaim in galleries throughout the United Kingdom, and each time a new print edition is released, orders from galleries around the world pour in, with editions famously selling out completely within just three months.
