André Bourrié was born in 1936 in Montpellier, southern France, and from an early age developed a deep fascination with color, light, texture, and form. After receiving formal art training, he initially earned a degree in ceramics, but through the process of firing clay and painting on ceramic surfaces, he discovered a growing passion for oil painting.

This transition led him to a profound interest in the way light creates shadows in nature, and he became particularly devoted to depicting the landscapes of southern France where he was raised. Today, Bourrié is widely recognized for his monumental paintings of the French countryside and seascapes.

His early works, shaped by Fauvist sensibilities, focus on the intensity of light and reveal his remarkable ability to capture both the visible and the invisible forces of nature through delicate brushstrokes. In his later series, a greater sense of softness emerges, offering viewers a deep sense of comfort and joy drawn from nature. Bourrié is currently represented by Axelle Fine Arts in New York, and his works are held in numerous public institutions and private collections across France, Japan, and the United States.
